Notes from a blogger.

May marks my five year blog anniversary (I had one other blog before this one)!

I've always been known as the blogger in my group of friends. I can't count how many time over the years I've said "I'll blog it." Or how many questions I've received about content, HTML, posts, motivation, photography, et cetera.

In honour of this, I decided to offer up five "tips" to blogging! This is how I BLOG. Nothing impressive! This isn't sage wisdom here, just a look into my blogging mind. ♥

1. CONTENT IS KEY.

People like short and sweet - the most popular blogs have an average of 250 words per post (I can't remember where I read that). A super long post can be daunting to read and is often just skimmed.

And people really like pictures! I shoot with a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS. And for editing I have a Premium subscription to Picnik.

2. The best thing that comes from blogging? THE CONNECTIONS. Treasure them.

Gosh, the fascinating people I've met through blogging! Amazing. I've learned and grown so much from this online reality.

But a note: online collaboration can be hard. I've had three shared blogs (multiple authors) in the past five years and they've all failed miserably in the first month. It's much like a school group project, everyone needs to be invested. And don't allow yourself to be exploited!

3. If you have a good post/blog idea: WRITE IT DOWN.

Or you'll forget. I have a whole blog book! I carry it everywhere.

4. BE CONSISTENT.

In your posting. In your content. In your demeanor. Or people will stop paying attention. Or worse, get mad.

5. GENUINE IS EVERYTHING.

Never try and be something you're not, then blogging stops being fun. Also, I only comment on blogs I respect/like/can relate to. It is very noticeable when people go follower trolling. Ew.

Would you agree? And any tips for me? :)
