- It has rained 22 days out of 24.
- The average temperature has been 11C/52F (today it felt like 2C/36F with the windchill).
- It hasn't reached 20C/68F once.
- Other than a handful of afternoons, it has been non-stop fog.
What does this mean?
It means I'm sad. And it means the people of this city are on the verge of going nutters. When you live in a place that has such harsh weather conditions (my city is the foggiest, snowiest, wettest, windiest, and cloudiest city in Canada), you come to rely on the summer.
After snow and cold and snow and blizzards and snow, you expect anything that resembles sunshine and warmth to break through at some point. It just has to! And when you don't get that by July 1st... YOU START TO FREAK. Because in the back of your mind you're thinking, "in three months time winter will creep back in." AND YOU START TO FREAK. AGAIN.
A lack of vitamin D will do crazy things to a person.
Everyone has been talking about Saturday (tomorrow). "It's suppose to be nice on Saturday!", "Going to be great on Saturday!", "Not suppose to rain on Saturday I hear!" et cetera.
I just checked the weather. Saturday? Rain. Cloud. Fog.
So this is where I send an eye-twitching plea out into the blog world and up to the heavens: can someone please tell the sun to shine down on me?
The song seems almost cruel now.

Our weather has finally started to warm up, although it never snow here at all, so I shouldn't complain. I'll send some sun your way.
ReplyDeleteoh sarah, i wish i could send you some texas sun, and all the delightful little bugs that come with it (yes, they're gross). big hugs! :)
ReplyDeleteoh man. where the heck do you live? it's gloomy here today in the hammer. and it's actually been the wettest spring ever. today it's relatively cool and on the verge of a rainy-stormy afternoon. although it does make working on a summer Saturday a little bit more bearable.
ReplyDeletevit d! i take one everyday! it helps with keeping me grounded when there is crummy weather but also because i spend most of my days indoors in an office setting! you can get a bottle from the drug store! it might help you kick this funk.
<3 enjoy your weekend.
right now the sun is shining! quick to mullock for BBQ party times!!!! <3
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone! Ottawa had its wettest spring and I'm thinking it's continuing on to summer. Take the sunny days when you can and enjoy them to their fullest! It's the only thing that will get us through this...

Move to Ontario with me!!! It has felt like summer for at least a month or two.
ReplyDeleteBut honestly I remember it being like that in St. John's last year, at least through most of June. And we still ended up with a summer super full of sun and fun after the crappy weather finally broke. It will come. <3
Today was a miracle!!!
ReplyDeleteI spent it walking around downtown and I'm happy to say that I soaked up a fair amount of the sun that dared to shine. But what a joke, is this shaping up to be the worst summer of Newfoundland (weatherwise)? All the grey skies are gettin' me down so I hope it gets better too.
Man Lenore, this time last year I had a sunburn and had been bitching about the heat for a few weeks already. Best Sunday ever was in June!!!
ReplyDeleteI shall try to bring the sunshine back with me. Well, its not particularly sunny here but its 18 degrees today at least. I'll be running back here screaming in a few weeks if it doesn't get any better. Sigh.
Time for a road trip to Ontario!
